RSVP, 2014
|
RSVP's cluttered design seeks to compress and recreate a domestic environment, specifically, that of a family celebration. Appropriating a tacky, crafty, and garish aesthetic, this piece explores and celebrates graduation through the lens of femininity and nostalgia. The piece references the artist's own religious elementary schooling and teenage awkwardness in sexuality and transition. RSVP also references the nature of the exhibition in jesting at the achievement of an art degree. Through the artist's jewelry pieces, she is making said art degree tangible, flashy, and obnoxious.
