Mount Kiyozumi in Awa Province: Digitized, 2015
A project completed for The Art Institute of Chicago Museum's print department. This project's intent was to recreate Utagawa Hiroshige's original woodblock, Mount Kiyozumi in Awa Province, 1858, for the purpose of a tactile teaching aid for the visually impaired. The piece is also used for guided tours of the AIC. The process consisted of capturing images of the original woodblock, painstakingly painting in contrast to prepare for laser cutting, and engraving the image onto a 16" x 11" block of cherry wood.
Taking the piece further, I converted my engraving file into a 3D model and finally to a wearable bracer. |
