Comb Project, 2016-2017This commissioned work involved 3D scanning a vintage 1970s pick comb - a personal belonging of the employing artist. I then cleaned up the model file, facing many challenges due to the shape and surface of the object, to match it extremely close to the original. It also was requested that I modify the model, adding in certain details, using sculpt-based modeling tools and programs. Once the model was finished, I prepared it for resin-based 3D printing and printed a larger mock-up for the artist to inspect.
The model file I created was then handed over to the artist's CNC team to create the final piece you see installed here. This piece was shown at Expo Chicago 2016 and I have continued to be called to this project for additional commissioned work involving new iterations and mash-ups. |
